I’ve been making websites and designing games for over 8 years now. My most successful site has been AddictingGames.com which is now owned by MTV. After the sale I launched OneMoreLevel.com and it has grown to over 3 million visitors a month. I’m particularly interested in Web 2.0 startups, game design and the growth of the casual gaming industry, which is the intended focus of this blog, however it may degenerate into lolcat photos and off-topic ramblings.
My design philosophy behind OneMoreLevel is:
- Quality over quantity. Only the best games make it on.
- Non-intrusive and minimal advertising. I don’t allow pop-up or audio ads.
- A quick, clean layout and no login required to play games.
- Free sharing of games. I’m happy to link to my competitor’s site if they have a good title I do not. I’m not a fan of walled-in sites.
- Reward developers. Without them we wouldn’t have any games and I wouldn’t have a job!
My other interests include playing guitar, photography, hiking, disc golf and travel.

Warptweet.com isn’t really my site, I used to work for it. I tried convincing “Curtis Hunter” into choosing “quality over quantity” because I thought that it would save the site. He ignored me and screwed it all up because most of the games suck. Now since I’ve learned about your philosophy, I think I’ll use it to encourage him to remove all of the stupid games and keep the really fun ones that get the most views, and then he can start from there.

Great site, but I have one suggestion. Label the games so that we can see what category they are in. I often use the Random button, and find interesting games that way, but it not only does not tell you the category, but if you try to short cut to the game, it short cuts instead to a random game.
I have used the All category to find game, but that can take awhile, especially if they start with a latter alter in the alphabet. (Though short cutting works)
It would be nice to simply know what category they are in, to make them easier to find.

I’ve made a free rider 2 forum for sharing maps. it’s not a real site (sorry for that) but it still works. It’s brand new so no posts. Great site and try not to sell out. I enjoy playing a real gamers site as oppose to MTV’s. Add tower defence games and “Starfighter: Disputed Galaxy”. It’s an online flash game (not by me) but it’s one of my favorites and your site has the least lag. Thanks for reading.

nice mac. ive got ibook G4, and i think macs are better than pcs. I like biking too, mainly dirt jumping and trail riding. man ur so lucky that u live in BC!!! thats like the best place on earth for skiing/biking. i just live in a little town in ontairo that for some reason got noticed by RYAN LEECH!!!!!! if u dont know him, hes is a trails rider for the norco team. he did a demo and it rocked! btw, ur right, there are no crap games on ur site.

Hey dude!, I have to say that this is the greatest website ever!!!! I seriously spend all my time here lol. All the games are so cool! I cant believe you sold addictinggames to MTV!!! How much money did they give you?? I stopped playing addictinggames because i didnt like how it is beginning to look. Its just not as fun as this place. They have adds and everything! For the past year i’ve been devoloping a strong intrest in game desing. Primarily because, I love video games and seems to be something I could make a good living off of and I’d enjoy. As of the moment i’m currently enrolled in AP computer science in my high school. However, the only programming language were being taught is java. What would you reccomend I study if wanted pursue a career in that field. Do you have any two player games that are simple to connect two people not a whole community? When traveling I’ve wanted to play a simple game like backgammon against my wife while she is at home (or the other way around). The online games I’ve seen require a lot of overhead and you might not get connected to the person you want. Granted, the last time I tried was more than a couple of years ago.
Any ideas? Wonderful site. Clean design.

I think Ira is pretty cool guy! He has websites, and doesn’t afraid of anything! *Cough* Sorry, wrong internet dialect. Awesome site! I check it every day when I’m released from the daily educated drudgery (school). Big fan of that Endless War! I’m glad you put it on. Plus this is one of the few sites that doesn’t play games in separate windows, which I loathe entirely for reasons that not even I know.

Awesome site, I feel like im a younger version of you just waiting to become you :) — Im just now getting into the feild of web design, photography, and video production. Im going to a performing arts charter school(high school) for those. Only a freshman so im just now starting to learn this stuff haha, but im convinced, and always have been convinced that this is what i want to do. hey dude you should sooo make free rider 2 into a games console game like nintendo DS game or PSP game or PS3 game or something!!! you have to seriously everyone will love it you’ll probably get loads of cash from it cos of the millions of people who love playing it!! soooo just consider it please it would be awesome if you did it.

You rock kongregate is trash……just went to see puzzle games and there was this one game called maze and you know wat i saw?you alrdy prob know…..exorcist.On the other hand i like you because you dont get messed up scary pop up games…..thnx again

onemorelevel.com is awesome! I come to it all the time! My favorite game on onemorelevel is The Impossible Quiz and The Impossible Quiz 2. I can complete both of them. And keep adding new games on here and make more of them to add.

onemorelevel rock i com every day the no pop ups is great and lets you keep on playing the games
you SHOULD consider makeing the free riders into nintendo DS games every one would buy them (i would buy five of each if you did make them into DS games)

Man u r a friggin genius when it comes down to computers. I love the websites addictinggames.com and onemorelevel.com. I like the setup of both websites and i think that not having to have a membership to play on these websites is the best i hope u keep up the good work and i hope u can make more websites that i will be willing to visit. if u have the time please email and tell me if u have any new websites or anything. Ira — My cousin Zach showed me AddictingGames.com about five years ago, and ever since then I was hooked on it - I told my friend Joey when he came to OneMoreLevel.com “Dude! AddictingGames is the original! Go to that!”; Then I saw how bad MTV messed it up. Plus, I didn’t know that you were behind both; great work, and great slogan, always gets me a laugh.
I come to OneMoreLevel.com all the time, mostly as a Daily Loss of Productivity, but it’s also just something simple. I was going to make a suggestion; I’m pretty sure you’re familiar with the Xbox 360 game console, and it’s ability to gain ‘Achievements’ for ‘Gamer Score’ — Well, what if you did that for games on OneMoreLevel? Let someone sign up for an account, and make “Unlockables” (A different, better name than that) and “OneMoreScore” as a sum of all that people can do on this site — Just a thought. Either way, I’m not going to stop coming here — Thanks Ira!

Hey man nice designing you’ve got some serious talent. I love the no-membership thing, it makes gaming so much easier. OML is so much better than Miniclip, but they have all the advertising, so i tell all i know of your awesome games. OML and Addicting Games are some of the only places gaming is nag-free anymore, because everywhere else requires membership to play fun games. Overall, thank you SOOOOO much for your sites, I hope you continue to do your thing.

Plus you don’t have to go through a whole lot of b.s. to play them.
Bomb-a-bomb is probably one of THE best games I’ve played. On my computer the many pixels slows the game but It’s so addicting!
